The surround toothbrush provides an easier, more efficient way to clean teeth in situations of challenging compliance. It is a three-sided brush that allows all top and sides of the teeth to be brushed in the one action. This is an ideal type of brush for carers who find it difficult to clean their clients or loved ones teeth because of access or compliance issues.

The surround toothbrush needs to be activated before brushing. The heads will need to be bent outwards so that the side bristles are angled such that they can be positioned just at the gum margins. The brush comes in two sizes (children and adult). Look at size of the teeth. If the teeth are small, a children’s size will be more appropriate. If the teeth are larger, an adult size will be more appropriate.

  1. Apply a pea sized amount of recommended toothpaste to the centre of the brush.
  2. In situations of limited opening pass the surround brush back and forth multiple times over the top surfaces of the teeth, ensuring the bristles contact the sides of teeth.
  3. Complete this for both sides of the upper and lower jaws.
  4. Spit out excess toothpaste but ideally don’t rinse.
