This article explains how to clean under braces or a wire retainer using special floss.
- Braces and wires trap more food and plaque (germs). This raises the risk of decay and gum disease.
- You can use small interdental brushes, special toothbrushes or Superfloss.
- Superfloss has 3 parts: a stiff end to push through, a thick soft part to clean, and normal floss.
- You can also use a floss threader with normal floss.
Steps
- Find the place to clean.
- Push the stiff end between the teeth, under the wire.
- Grab it on the other side and pull it through.
- Pull the floss down against the side of each tooth. It may feel a bit uncomfortable.
- Be careful. Do not pull up hard on the wire. It could come loose.
