This article explains how to use chlorhexidine mouthwash.

  • Chlorhexidine kills germs and lowers plaque very well.
  • Use it only when your dental professional says, usually for 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Using it for a long time can stain teeth, change taste and cause build-up.
  • Always read the instructions on the bottle.

Steps

  1. Brush and floss first. Use a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS).
  2. Put 10 ml (about 1 capful) in your mouth.
  3. Swish it around for 30 seconds.
  4. Spit it out.
  5. Do not eat, drink or smoke for at least 30 minutes.
