This article explains how to use denture glue (adhesive paste).
- Loose dentures can rub and cause sore spots and ulcers.
- First, ask a dentist or denture maker (prosthetist) to check and fix the fit. Bottom dentures are often loose because the jaw bone changes.
- Denture glue can help for now. It helps the denture stay in, feel better and chew better.
- Glue can be sticky and messy. Dry mouth gel can work instead and is easier to clean off.
Steps
- Make sure the denture is clean. Remove food and old glue.
- Top denture: put 3 to 5 short strips at the front, middle and sides. Keep away from the edges.
- Bottom denture: put a few short strips on the inside.
- Rinse the mouth.
- Press the denture into place. Hold it firmly and bite down for a few seconds.
- Use as little glue as you can.
- When you clean the denture (twice a day), also brush any glue off the gums and roof of the mouth.
