Specialised toothpaste containing a higher dose of fluoride can be very beneficial for patients with an increased risk of decay. They are required to be labelled for the user and come with some additional precautions. Ingredients in these products help to microscopically remineralise ( repair ) the surface of the tooth if damaged by decay or erosion. Calcium and Phosphate is also known as Hydroxyapatite. Not all products are created equal, and they must deliver the ingredients in a way that can be taken up by the tooth surface. The addition of very high fluoride means that it helps to repair your tooth and make it stronger than before. This is ideal for high-risk groups with dry mouth who are at elevated risk of decay, particularly on the roots of teeth.
