Clean dentures are essential for a healthy mouth. Dirty dentures can accumulate harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi. Denture brushes have long bristles, a large end for regular brushing and a smaller tufted end for harder-to-reach areas of dentures and a generally easier to grip.
It is recommended to NOT WEAR DENTURES overnight. This will reduce the incidence of soft tissue irritation and it is also recommended to brush your gums, and the roof of your mouth to remove food debris, and plaque.
- Partially fill a sink or place a damp towel in the bottom of the sink to prevent dentures from breaking if they are dropped.
- Rinse off any excess food debris with cold or luke-warm water and apply specialised denture cleaning gel or liquid hand soap. Toothpaste is NOT recommended as it can cause wear and abrasion.
- Use your denture brush to thoroughly and gently clean the internal and external surfaces.
- It is essential to clean the framework of partial dentures with the small end of the brush. Leaving plaque behind on the clasps that grip the natural teeth is a major risk factor for decay.
- Rinse well with cold water and re-fit if being worn again.
- If storing overnight, (recommended) ensure the denture is dry before placing back in its container. Rinse clean the brush after each use and allow it to dry.
- For caked on scale, try soaking the device in white vinegar for 10 minutes.
